Events
Under the MAC program, VREF has a number of opportunities available for researchers and practioners with interest in the area of sustainable and equitable mobility and access in sub-Saharan African cities. The following opportunities are available through VREF:
MAC workshop 2021
As part of its ambitions to support networking and knowledge sharing, and in building an African research network on access and mobility, VREF is organising a workshop in Accra, Ghana. Due to the current worldwide situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic the event has beenpostponed untill further notice. The workshop week will offer a series of related events besides the main event, such as skills and tools workshops, site visits and a workshop/seminar for PhD students and early stage researchers.
Whereas 2019’s workshop aimed to provide network opportunities between academics and practitioners, the next workshop will focus on gathering researchers from university environments in sub-Saharan Africa, who share the interest in access, mobility and transport in cities.
MAC workshop 2019
The 2019 MAC research workshop took place 17-19 September in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and was co-organised with TUMI/GIZ. The workshop gathered over 50 researchers and practitioners from 15 countries for three days of joint discussions and presentations.
CALL FOR NOMINATION FOR the Håkan Frisinger Award for Excellence in Transportation Research
The VREF invites universities located in Sweden to nominate candidates for The Håkan Frisinger Award (Håkan Frisingers pris till framstående transportforskare) and apply for a VREF Visiting Researcher Grant for the nominated candidate.

MOBILITY GRANT 2021- MAC-MG 2021 (pdf, 443.4 kB)
The VREF invites PhD students and advanced master students from Sub-Saharan African (SSA) universities to apply for a Mobility Grant (MG) to support a visit to another SSA university with up to SEK 25 000.
The VREF invites PhD students and researchers in early stages of their career to apply for a Study Visit Grant to be supported with up to SEK 30 000.
Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarships for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency targets supporting the momentum of Lee Schipper’s contribution to the international policy dialogue in these fields.
This yearly award is aimed at supporting young individual researchers and students in is pursuance.
