Young Excellent Researchers Award 2020

2020-11-19

Congratulations to the China Academy of Transportation Sciences for its 60 year's jubilee!

VREF joins the other China Academy of Transportation Sciences partners in celebrating the progress and accomplishments it has reached during its 60 years of operation, and its contributions to urban and regional transportation.

By the end of 50’s, a rapid urbanization and motorization forced China to confront itself with challenges such as traffic congestion and their environmental impacts. Since its creation in 1960, the China Academy of Transportation Sciences (CATS), contributed to the best of the Chinese community, finding ways to solve transportation’s major concerns, as well as putting forward and implementing sustainable and best practice solutions. As a comprehensive scientific research institution, it became rapidly one of the most successful leading think tanks internationally recognized by its peers.

On November 17, the China Academy of Transportation Sciences (CATS) held the celebration for its 60th anniversary.

Delegates from the Chinese Ministry of Transportation and transport research organizations as well as CATS staff attended the ceremony. The Vice Minister of the Ministry of Transport, expressed his warm congratulations and expectations. More than 50 Chinese transport departments, research organizations and transport enterprises sent their congratulations to CATS. International partners such as The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, International Transportation Forum, World Road Association, Southern California Association of Governments, the World Bank Office of Beijing, and the VREF sent Letters of Greetings to CATS for its 60th anniversary.

The celebration was the opportunity to congratulate the honorary winners of "Young Talents of China Academy of Transportation Sciences in 2020" (see photo). To commemorate the Jubilee, a collection of "History of China Academy of Transportation Sciences in the Past Sixty Years” was released, and two awards, "The Outstanding Achievements Award" and "Special Contribution Award" were attributed to major achievements and innovation leaders.

Special invitations were extended to Mr. Bangkui Fan, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Mr. Hu Zheng, Vice President of the Ground Transportation business group of Ctrip group, to make presentations on new transportation infrastructure and new forms and models of transportation.

Together with CATS, the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF) established in 2006 the China Urban Sustainable Transport Research Center (CUSTReC), striving to be a national, regional and international Center of Excellence for research & development, communication & dissemination, and education & training in future urban transport. CUSTReC has highly contributed to moving forward the state-of-the-art in urban transportation research, and with its international partnership of universities and institutes, it is one of the leading actors in the field, in China as well as globally.
